A hawse pipe forms a passage for a line or chain through an opening. The appropriate component depends on the planned arrangement, including the entry shape, passage size and available mounting space. Overall appearance alone does not reveal the internal clearance or the way the fitting seats against the supporting surface.

Specify the Passage and Mounting Features

Mark the clear opening, flange dimensions, depth and fixing positions. Identify which dimensions are critical to the fit and which areas require a finished seating surface. For a replacement component, use the approved dimensions rather than assuming that a similar profile is interchangeable. Include a section view where it helps explain the passage shape or wall configuration.

Describe the Required Finish

State the material grade and distinguish visible polished areas from concealed mounting surfaces. The areas contacted by the intended line or chain should be identified for finishing review. Agree how the sample will be assessed for appearance and dimensional fit. A material designation, a finish description and an inspection requirement serve different purposes and should each be recorded clearly.

Move from Sample to Production
